what is the name of this kids movie?

All i remember is a boy finds a book with a marble like spy glass. He goes out into the woods and when he looks though the glass he sees all these little monsters who live in the woods. The monsters want their book back. I think he put salt or something around the yard so the little creatures couldn’t get to the house. I sure hope someone knows what movie I am talking about. It is driving me crazy lol!!
